Paris Saint-Germain have progressed to their second UEFA Champions League final following a 2-1 win against Arsenal in the semi-final second leg at the Parc des Princes on Wednesday.
The French champions, who won the first leg 1-0, finished with a 3-1 aggregate victory that sends them to face Inter Milan in the final showpiece of European club football.
Despite Arsenal controlling the early exchanges and missing several clear opportunities, PSG took the lead before half-time through Fabian Ruiz, whose shot from outside the penalty area deflected past David Raya.
This goal extended their aggregate advantage to two goals, putting additional pressure on the London side to respond in the second half.
The match saw further drama when PSG were awarded a penalty midway through the second period. Vitinha stepped up but saw his spot-kick saved by Raya in the Arsenal goal.
The reprieve for the visitors was short-lived, however, as Achraf Hakimi soon added a second goal with a curling effort into the far corner that left Raya with no chance.
Bukayo Saka pulled one back for Arsenal just four minutes after PSG’s second goal, offering brief hope of a comeback.
Nevertheless, the English side could not find another goal in the remaining minutes, allowing the Parisian club to celebrate their progression to the final, where they will meet Italian giants Inter.
The result is significant for PSG in their quest for a first UCL trophy, while Arsenal’s impressive European campaign ends at the semi-final stage.
The final will take place later this month, giving PSG the opportunity to claim European football’s most coveted prize against Inter, who qualified through their a thrilling semi-final triumph over favourites Barcelona.
