Paris Saint-Germain extended their lead at the summit of Ligue 1 to four points following a thrilling 5-2 triumph over third-placed AS Monaco at Parc des Princes on Friday. Displaying clinical finishing with goals from five different players, PSG secured their sixth consecutive league victory.
Despite Monaco entering the match just three points behind the leaders, they couldn’t match PSG’s attacking prowess, spearheaded by Kylian Mbappé’s 14th league goal from the penalty spot. Monaco managed to equalize twice through Takumi Minamino and Folarin Balogun, but defensive lapses proved costly.
Gonçalo Ramos opened the scoring in the 18th minute after Philipp Köhn spilled a save, giving PSG the lead. However, Minamino quickly leveled four minutes later, capitalizing on Gianluigi Donnarumma’s poor clearance. Despite creating several chances, Monaco conceded three times in quick succession, putting the match out of reach.
Mbappé restored the lead with a 38th-minute penalty after PSG was awarded a spot-kick for a foul on Ousmane Dembélé. Dembélé himself extended the advantage in the 51st minute with a curled effort from inside the box. Two minutes later, Vitinha added a delightful fourth with a curling strike from the edge of the area.
Balogun pulled one back in the 75th minute, finishing off an Aleksandr Golovin pass, but Monaco was exposed again from a set-piece, allowing substitute Randal Kolo Muani to seal an emphatic victory for the league leaders deep into second-half stoppage time.
