Paris Saint-Germain surrendered a two-goal lead as they were held to a 2-2 draw by Brest in Sunday’s Ligue 1 clash, ending the league leaders’ run of 14 consecutive head-to-head wins over Les Pirates.
Despite carving out opportunities through Vitinha and Kylian Mbappé, PSG struggled to break down a resilient Brest defence in the opening stages. The visitors posed an attacking threat too, with Jérémy Le Douaron and Romain Del Castillo both testing Gianluigi Donnarumma.
However, Marco Asensio opened the scoring for the hosts in the 38th minute courtesy of a perfectly weighted assist from Bradley Barcola. Asensio turned provider seven minutes later, allowing Randal Kolo Muani to double PSG’s advantage.
Brest emerged stronger after the interval, troubling the PSG backline through Pierre Lees-Melou and Hugo Magnetti. The pressure was felt when Mahdi Camara’s deflected effort halved the deficit. Fellow substitute Mathias Pereira Lage then equalised in the 80th minute after being set up by Martin Satriano. Despite late pressure, the hosts were forced to settle for a share of the spoils after Barcola was sent off late in the game.
The result ends winning runs of five and six league games for PSG and Brest respectively. It also cuts the league leaders’ advantage over second-placed Nice to six points. Brest extended their unbeaten run to ten matches across all competitions.
