Six weeks after the Ondo State Governor, Rotimi Akeredolu arrived in the country from his medical vacation in Germany, the opposition claimed he was missing.
Akeredolu arrived in the country on September 7 after about three months in Germany. But since his return, the governor has not been spotted in Ondo. He is reportedly running the state from his private residence in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.
The opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have been demanding his whereabouts with the hashtag #WhereIsAketi.
Fliers are being circulated in the state by the PDP youth wing which vowed to stage a protest today (Monday) in the state capital, Akure, to demand the whereabouts of the governor.
According to the PDP, the continued absence of Akeredolu has stalled developmental projects and progress.
There is also a political stand-off between the Ondo State House of Assembly and the Deputy Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa. While the Assembly members have vowed to impeach him, the deputy governor has stalled the process through a court action.
“#WhereIsAketi, We cannot continue this way. Enough Is Enough. We want to know the governor’s whereabouts….” a copy of the fliers branded with the PDP logo reads.
But APC, in a reaction to the protest, alleged that the PDP wanted to instigate political tension.
In a statement released to reporters in Akure on Sunday, Alex Kalejaye, the publicity secretary of the APC, alleged that the essence of the PDP’s arrangement was to create a semblance of political instability in the peaceful state and also portray the ruling party in a bad light ahead of next year’s governorship election in the state.
He said, “It has come to our knowledge that some PDP chieftains who have started making huge contributions, in collaboration with some players within our fold, have finalised plans to destabilise the Sunshine State.
“We are very optimistic that our governor; your performing governor, will be in our midst in a matter of days.”
