The Presidency issued a scathing response to former Vice President Atiku Abubakar’s criticism of President Bola Tinubu’s handling of Nigeria’s challenges and economic policies.
In a press release by Special Adviser Bayo Onanuga, Atiku was labeled a hypocrite for failing to propose better policy alternatives during his presidential bid, echoing Tinubu’s economic agenda.
Atiku’s critique, posted on his social media platform, accused Tinubu of exacerbating economic woes, leading to widespread despair and hunger. In response, Onanuga accused Atiku of seeking attention as an opposition figure without offering constructive solutions.
The statement highlighted areas of agreement among major candidates on issues like fuel subsidy and exchange rates but pointed out divergence regarding the sale of national assets, which Atiku allegedly favored for personal gain.
Tinubu’s administration was praised for taking bold steps to reform the economy, despite short-term challenges. The statement emphasized Tinubu’s commitment to addressing economic and security concerns, with policies yielding positive results in the stock market and fiscal reforms.
While Tinubu’s team works towards national progress, the statement concluded by dismissing Atiku’s criticisms as mere attempts to undermine the administration’s efforts.
