Police summon Sowore over viral video berating officers for causing traffic gridlock via roadblocks

The police have extended an invitation to Omoyele Sowore, a prominent activist and one of the conveners of the End Bad Governance movement for an interview regarding several allegations.

 

 

According to the invitation letter, the office is investigating a case involving several charges, including resisting and obstructing public officers, disobedience to lawful orders, acts intended to cause grievous harm or prevent arrest, compelling action by intimidation, reckless and negligent acts, refusal to assist public servants, and cyberstalking.

 

 

The letter, signed by Commissioner of Police Ibitoye Rufus Alajide on behalf of the Deputy Inspector General of Police, Force Intelligence Department (FID), states, “You are requested to report for an interview with the Deputy Inspector General of Police, Force Intelligence Department (FID) through the undersigned, at SPO’s Room 212, 2nd Floor, Force Intelligence Department (FID) Complex, Shehu Shagari way, opposite Force Headquarters Area 11, Garki, Abuja on Monday, 27th January, 2025 at 10 am.”

 

 

The letter further mentions that the request is made pursuant to the investigative powers conferred on the police by the combined effect of Sections 214 and the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999 (as amended), and Section 4 of the Police Act and Regulations, 2020.

 

 

Sowore, a vocal critic of the government, has been a key figure in various protests and movements advocating for good governance and accountability in Nigeria. His activism has often put him at odds with the authorities, resulting in multiple arrests and legal battles.

 

 

In light of the invitation, the letter informs Sowore that he is at liberty to come along with his attorney for the interview. “Be informed that you are at liberty to come along with your attorney, please,” the letter states.
