The police have shot teargas at protesters of the #EndBadGovernance protest in Abuja.
A lawyer and activist, Deji Adeyanju, said on his X handle that, “the police have started to fire teargas at us.”
The police and protesters had earlier disagreed on the interpretation of a court judgment which restricted the protest to the MKO Abiola Stadium.
While the police commissioner insisted that the order was for the protesters to be inside the stadium, Adeyanju said the court meant the premises of the stadium.
The FIJ quoted a protester at the Eagle Square, Abiodun Sanusi, who said the teargas may have resulted in the death of an infant at the Eagle Square.
He said: “I learnt that an infant and her mother were tear-gassed. Some people are saying the infant has died,” he said.
The #EndbadGovernance protest kicked off nationwide in many parts of the country including Lagos, Abuja, Port Harcourt, Bayelsa, Kano, Adamawa and many other places.
