The Nigerian police force has deranked Inspector Adejoh Siaka to the position of a sergeant after he was caught in a now viral video assaulting a citizen in Rivers State.
Announcing the development in a statement made available on Sunday, Olumuyiwa Adejobi the force PRO explained that the decision followed the surfacing of an old video where the officer was seen engaging in a discreditable conduct in Emohua area of Rivers state.
The reappearance of the video shocked the police, who claimed that it was not a recent incident. The Force PRO, however, insisted that it properly punished the officers once the incident was reported.
The police also issued a warning to mischief makers attempting to discredit the force to always verify information before making unfounded claims.
“Following complaints and a subsequent orderly room trial, one police officer, Inspector Adejoh Siaka, was demoted from Inspector to Sergeant, and another officer, Sergeant Ndiwa Kpuebari, was severely reprimanded for their involvement in the incident. Additionally, Inspector Friday Obaka, who was absent from the scene, was discharged unconditionally,” the statement partly read.
“It’s astonishing to see the video being widely circulated again as a new incident. We urge the general public to please discountenance the video which appears to be an attempt to bring the Force to disrepute and generate a wrong impression about the Police. Mischief makers are hereby warned to always verify facts before rushing to make unfounded claims about such matters on social media.”
