The Delta State Police Command has announced the arrest of over 100 suspected gay men carrying out a same-sex wedding ceremony in the state.
According to the police, the gay men were rounded up in a club in Warri, Delta State.
The command in a statement posted on X, formerly Twitter on Tuesday morning, noted that they would be going live shortly on Facebook to parade the suspects.
“Delta State Command have arrested over a hundred gay suspects in a hotel carrying out a gay wedding ceremony. We will be going Live Shortly on Facebook to parade the said suspects,” the command wrote.
In 2013, the National Assembly passed a bill, which was then signed into law banning any form of same-sex relationship.
The law states that only a marriage contracted between a man and a woman is recognized as valid in Nigeria.
The law also prohibits the registration of gay clubs, societies and organisations, their sustenance, processions and meetings.
The law warns against public show of same-sex amorous relationships directly.
The law slams a 14-year imprisonment for any person who enters into a same-sex marriage contract or civil union.
