President of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Joe Ajaero has been summoned by the Nigeria Police Force over allegations of terrorism financing, treasonable felony, subversion and cybercrime.
In a letter signed by one Assistant Commissioner of Police Adamu Muazu, Ajaero was ordered to appear before the Intelligence Response Team for interrogation on Tuesday by 10am.
The police also threatened to activate a warrant of arrest if Ajero doesnt appear before its team of investigators on Tuesday.
The letter reads in part, “The office is investigating a case of criminal conspiracy, terrorism financing, treasonable felony, subversion and cybercrime in which you were mentioned.
“You are therefore invited to interview the undersigned on Tuesday August 20th by 10:00 hours prompt.”
Recall that on Wednesday August 7, heavily armed policemen invaded the NLC Headquarters, Abuja, commonly known as Labour House and ransacked the premises.
The police, through the Force Public Relations Officer, Muyiwa Adejobi, later denied their operatives invaded the NLC secretariat. He claimed that they only traced a suspected criminal to the building which coincidentally houses the organisation’s office.
In his reaction to the charges of terrorism levelled against the NLC President, presidential candidate of the African Action Congress in the 2023 election, Omoyele Sowore, said Nigeria is descending into a state of fascism which must be resisted.
He said via his X handle, “The Tinubu regime is going completely fascist, and we must ALL together and stop him NOW!”
