A political activist, Comrade Shehu Sani, has faulted the Appeal Court judgment which nullified the election of Plateau State Governor, David Muftwang.
The Appeal Court on Sunday replaced Muftwang, candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the March 18 election, with Nentawe Goshwe, his closest challenger from the All Progressives Congress (APC) who came second in the election.
Mutfwang had polled 525,299 votes while the candidate of the APC, Goshwe, polled 481,370 votes in the March 18 governorship election.
Goshwe, however, challenged the victory of Mutfwang at the tribunal claiming that the governor was not validly nominated and sponsored by his party. The Appeal Court agreed. It then ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to withdraw the Certificate of Return earlier issued to Muftwang and to present a fresh one to Goshwe.
In a post on X, Sani described the judgment as robbery, saying the judiciary is becoming the coffin of democracy.
He said: “The Court of Appeal Judgement against the electoral victory of the Plateau State Governor is unfortunate, unacceptable and condemnable. A broad daylight heist of the will of the people. The bench is becoming the coffin of democracy.”
