PDP crisis: We will restore normalcy to our Party – Young Democrats vow
Following the leadership crisis rocking the main opposition Peoples Democratic Party, the PDP Young Democrats have taken a step with a vow to restore normalcy to the party.
The PDP group which has about 134 members drawn from the 36 states, disclosed this on Friday during a press conference in Abuja.
The Young Democrats lamented that the position of the party’s National Chairman has for the umpteenth time become a subject of litigation, blaming the crisis on some few privileged individuals.
A member of the group, Alaibi Nnana Joseph who read the press statement signed by the 134 members, said the lingering crisis must stop.
“The Young Democrats notes with concern that for the umpteenth time, the post of our Party’s National Chairman has once again become a subject of litigation, the statement read.
“This is due to the agitation by some privileges few who continue to the party as private property. This must stop forthwith”.
The group called on the Acting National Chairman, Umar Ililya Damagum to immediately convene a meeting of the National Executive Council, NEC in a bid to resolve all the internal crises.
The Young Democrats also demanded that every erring individual or personality within the party undermining the party’s supremacy should be disciplined according to the party’s constitution.
“We hereby, urge the Acting National Chairman to convene as a matter of expediency, in line with the constitution of the party, a meeting of the National Executive Council, NEC of our great party with a mandate of resolving the litany of issues which only the NEC has the powers to resolve.
“We hereby register our support to the party for the most appropriate disciplinary actions to be taken on erring individuals or personalities within the party who have deliberately and flagrantly undermined the supremacy of our party.
“This we believe will serve as a deterrent for others to desist from such actions capable of bringing down the party in whatever state or form”, He added.
Also speaking at the event, the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, head of New Media, Anthony Ehilebo who is also a member of the group, said the Young Democrats is to ensure that the leadership crises are resolved amicably, insisting that PDP remains the largest political party in Africa.
