Palace, Everton set for FA Cup replay after goalless draw

Crystal Palace and Everton will meet again in a replay of their FA Cup third-round match after playing to a 0-0 draw at Selhurst Park. The tense affair saw a red card and multiple injuries, but neither side could break the deadlock.

Both managers fielded strong starting XIs, with Palace making two enforced changes due to injuries and the absence of Jordan Ayew at the Africa Cup of Nations. Everton had three changes from their last match. New Palace signing Matheus Franca made his first start for the club.

The match was played in pouring rain throughout the first half, making conditions difficult. Chances were few, with Palace failing to record a shot on target and Everton only managing one. The second half saw more action, but Palace could not capitalise on their one-man advantage after Everton’s Dominic Calvert-Lewin was sent off in the 79th minute in a controversial call.

Injuries were a consistent theme, with Everton’s Dwight McNeil stretchered off after sustaining a lower leg injury late on. Nathaniel Clyne also went down injured following Calvert-Lewin’s red card challenge.

The two sides will now prepare for a replay at a date yet to be determined. The winner will advance to the FA Cup fourth round.
