Nigeria swept the top two individual honours at the 2023 Confederation of African Football (CAF), Awards held on Monday, in Marrakech, Morocco.
Victor Osimhen was named Men’s Player of the Year after propelling Napoli to the Serie A title last season, while Barcelona forward, Asisat Oshoala, claimed the Women’s Player of the Year prize for an unprecedented sixth time following Champions League glory.
Oshoala’s Super Falcons’ teammate and Paris FC captain, Chiamaka Nnadozie, took home the CAF Women’s Goalkeeper of the Year Award. On the coaching front, Morocco manager, Walid Regragui, earned the men’s honour after guiding his nation to a shock World Cup semi-final in Qatar.
South Africa women’s coach, Desiree Ellis, claimed her fourth straight women’s coaching award after leading Banyana Banyana to maiden Africa Cup of Nations success.
There was also Moroccan success in the men’s goalkeeping category, with Yassine Bounou recognised for his impressive World Cup exploits. The awards gala marked another memorable night for African football to close out 2022, with Nigeria and Morocco amongst the biggest winners.
