Oshiomhole allegedly disrupts operations at Murtala Mohammed Airport after Air Peace shut him out

Adams Oshiomhole, a former Governor of Edo State, disrupted travelling activities at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA) in Lagos on Wednesday morning by locking the Zulu Terminal at the General Aviation Terminal after arriving late for his flight to Abuja.

According to a report by FIJ, Oshiomhole ordered the closure of the terminal after Air Peace staff briefed him that he had missed his flight.

In several short videos trending on X, Oshiomhole was seen talking to some people while a crowd of stranded travellers watched.

An eyewitness at the airport on Wednesday morning said that after the flight had taken off, Oshiomhole, who got to the airport late, ordered his security team to block the terminal, insisting that until he was sorted out, no one else would fly.

Barrister Michael Temitope, another eyewitness, said he saw Oshiomhole at about 6:12 am at the airport, but the flight was scheduled for 6:30 am.

“I saw him at 6:12 am. The rule is you have to be here 45 minutes before the time, and if you are here 30 minutes before the time, it is a privilege. He (Oshiomhole) seized the security of the airport and blocked the entrance,” said Barrister Temitope.

In a statement on its X page, the airline company Air Peace said Oshiomhole’s action prevented other passengers from gaining entry into the terminal and disrupted its operations.

Although Air Peace said that it condemned “the unruly conduct of a prominent Nigerian politician who disrupted airport operations on the morning of Wednesday, June 11, 2025”, it did not name the politician.

“The prominent individual in question arrived at Murtala Muhammed Airport Terminal 1 (Zulu Hall) at approximately 06:10 am for Flight P47120 scheduled to depart Lagos for Abuja at 06:30 am. In line with our standard on-time departure policy, the boarding process had closed, and the flight departed as scheduled,” Air Peace said.

“Upon being informed of the missed flight, the politician resorted to violence, physically assaulting our staff and forcefully barricading the terminal’s entrance. He went as far as sealing the entry gate and manning the access point, effectively obstructing other passengers from gaining entry into the terminal.

“This unacceptable behaviour caused significant disruption to ongoing operations and affected numerous travellers scheduled for various flights. To minimise further inconvenience, Air Peace swiftly activated an operational contingency plan to board affected passengers through an alternate terminal, ensuring the continuity of their travel plans.”

Meanwhile, Nigerians have been asking Air Peace why it refused to name the politician who disrupted airline activities on Wednesday morning in its press statement.
