The Olympic flame reached Paris on Friday, marking the final leg of its journey before the 2024 Summer Games. The torch relay entered the French capital after travelling through the country since May 8.
Friday’s torch relay included notable bearers such as US rapper, Snoop Dogg, at Stade de France and French rapper, MC Solaar, in Saint-Denis. The flame also visited the Olympic Village, where athletes from around the world eagerly filmed the iconic symbol.
The torch made its way through Paris suburbs before boarding a boat to cruise along the Canal Saint-Denis. Spectators lined bridges and banks to catch a glimpse of the flame.
The relay toured several Paris landmarks, including Parc de la Villette, which houses national ‘clubhouses’ for participating countries. The flame then continued its journey along the Canal de l’Ourcq towards the Seine.
Earlier stages of the relay saw International Olympic Committee president Thomas Bach and former UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon carry the torch. The flame’s arrival in Paris marks a significant milestone in the lead-up to the Olympic Games.
