Ifeanyi Okowa, the former presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2023 election, has defended his decision to defect to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) along with the Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, and other party stalwarts.
At a rally attended by Vice President Kashim Shettima in Asaba, the capital of Delta State, to welcome Oborevwori and others to the APC, Okowa said their decision to switch to the APC was inspired by the need to dominate the politics of Delta State.
He said: “It is time for us to stand together in great support for Mr President and Mr Governor, because together, we can truly dominate the politics in Delta State. I believe there will be no other party with this move that we have made.”
Okowa, a former Governor of Delta State, added: “You know me. I’ve been with you for so long. I’d rather sacrifice everything for the best interest of Delta. That decision that our governor took, that we needed to move after consultation with the leaders of the party, which was cascaded down to the local government and wards, is in the best interest of our state.”
Okowa, who was Atiku Abubakar’s running mate in the 2023 election, along with the state’s governor and lawmakers, last week joined the APC in a move that appears to obliterate opposition politics in Delta State.
