Lotanna Ojukwu, third son of Odimegwu Ojukwu, the Biafra Supreme Commander who led Igbos to the Biafra war, has spoken out on recent controversies surrounding the Biafra agitation and the ongoing sit-at-home order enforced by suspected members of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).
Speaking during Arise TV’s breakfast show on Friday, Mr Ojukwu argued that most Igbos do not believe in Biafra agitation. According to him, the Igbos want to be treated equally and are only looking for a level playing field.
“Most Igbos do not believe in Biafra, what they want is an equal playing field in Nigeria. People are using the fact that the Igbo man does not feel he gets a fair share; he is not being treated equally, and they are using that to paint Nigeria as not good for the Igbo man. If we love being by ourselves so much, why should so many Igbos be in Lagos, Kano, Abuja, plying their trade? We like to travel, we like to be free, to engage in our businesses all over Africa,” Mr Ojukwu said.
Recently, videos showing the criminal behavior of gunmen who are allegedly affiliated with the outlawed IPOB secessionist group surfaced on social media. The gunmen are thought to be enforcing the South-East lockdown imposed in the region due to the federal government’s ongoing detention of Nnamdi Kanu.
