Ogun Governor claims tiny bag of rice in viral video meant for a widow, not entire community

The Ogun state government has denied sending a tiny bag of rice to an entire community as shown in a trending video.

The government claimed the rice, in the viral video, was meant for a particular  widow and not the entire community which has over 100 houses.

Recall that in the viral video, a man who said he was the chairman of  Shokeye Community Development Area in Ogun State, said he received 10-kg size bag of rice for the entire residents of the estate.

He said: “I was just at home when they brought this (showed the little bag of rice)  for me as palliative for the whole of Shokeye Estate. In this estate, we have 147 houses with families and tenants.

“I’m confused now; I don’t know how to share this with 147 households in Shokeye Estate.

“I’m talking to Dapo Abiodun now; if you people know that you cannot do something, then don’t do it.

“We are not hungry; we are not beggars. So we don’t need your rice as  palliative. This is not even up to one-eight of a bag of rice.

“We don’t need this rice; if you want to give us palliatives, don’t insult us. This is an insult. Shokeye Estate refuses to be insulted.”

But the Ogun State government in a statement signed by the Chief Press Secretary to the State Governor, Lekan Adeniran, claimed the rice was meant for an unnamed widow. He, however, did not explain why the ‘widow’ was not given the rice directly.

“This man is aware that the bag of rice is meant for one vulnerable family in the community, and not for all the residents. It was sent to him as the Chairman for onward transfer to a vulnerable widow in his community.

“But, instead of ensuring that it gets to the intended beneficiary, he chose to play politics with the palliative, exposing himself as the destructive opposition agent that he actually is.”
