Off-cycle election: PDP issues stern warning to election riggers

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) declared on Thursday that it has rallied the populace of Bayelsa, Imo, and Kogi States to employ every legal means available to safeguard their votes in the upcoming Saturday governorship elections.

The party cautioned the All Progressives Congress (APC), advising against any attempt to manipulate the electoral process in these states.

Hon. Debo Ologunagba, the National Publicity Secretary of the PDP, asserted that the party would not permit any individual, regardless of their status, to interfere with the electoral proceedings in the mentioned states.

He warned that anyone trying to rig or manipulate the elections may face a legitimate backlash of the people.

Specifically addressing Governor Hope Uzodimma of Imo State, Yahaya Bello of Kogi State, and the candidate, Usman Ododo, Ologunagba urged them to acknowledge the rejection by the people for what he termed their “abysmal failure in government” and be prepared to concede defeat on Saturday.

Ologunagba stated, “The PDP reaffirms that all indices from several Entrance Polls indicate that the PDP candidates are leading and will sweep the governorship election in the three States. Any electoral trajectory that does not reflect the clear tide of the Will of the people at the Polling Units will be firmly resisted.”

In relation to Imo State, he mentioned that the PDP has received support from prominent citizens who denied backing the APC and its governorship candidate, Governor Hope Uzodimma. Ologunagba challenged Governor Uzodimma to disclose the names of citizens allegedly donating money to his campaign.

The PDP also expressed concern over the delay by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, to redeploy the Imo State Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), Prof. Sylvia Agu. The party asserted that the delay is heightening tension and could lead people to self-help.

The party concluded by stating, “The PDP is marching to victory with the people of Bayelsa, Kogi, and Imo States notwithstanding the antics of the APC.”
