In anticipation of the off-cycle elections in Bayelsa, Kogi, and Imo State, former Nigerian President Goodluck Jonathan has issued a plea to citizens, urging them to abstain from activities that may endanger the collective peace and stability of the states and the nation as a whole.
Just hours before the governorship elections in the three states, Jonathan, in an official statement via his social media handle, called on voters and politicians alike to steer clear of violence and conduct themselves in a peaceful and lawful manner.
“As citizens of voting age in Bayelsa, Imo, and Kogi States prepare to participate in the governorship elections tomorrow, I implore all voters and politicians to shun violence and uphold peaceful and lawful conduct. Let us refrain from engaging in activities that could jeopardize the overall peace and stability of our states and our nation. A leader genuinely concerned for his people would not resort to recruiting thugs to harm and endanger the very individuals he aspires to govern,” Jonathan emphasized.
He further urged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), security agencies, and other stakeholders to exhibit professionalism and patriotism in the discharge of their duties during the election.
