The Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, has called upon the members of the Nigeria Police Force to serve as exemplary representatives as they prepare for their election duties in the upcoming gubernatorial elections scheduled to take place in Kogi, Bayelsa, and Imo this weekend.
This directive was conveyed in an official statement released on Monday by the Force Public Relations Officer, Olumuyiwa Adejobi. The IGP emphasized this during his visit to Bayelsa State in anticipation of the state’s governorship election set for Saturday, November 11.
In his address, the IGP urged the officers and personnel of the command to execute their responsibilities impartially, strictly adhering to the rule of law during this off-cycle election. He stressed the importance of conducting their duties without any prejudice and acting within the confines of the law.
Adejobi’s statement reads in part, “The IGP later addressed Officers and Men of the Command at the State Headquarters, where he tasked them to discharge their duties without fear or favor and act within the ambit of the law during the Saturday election. The IGP warned them to be good ambassadors of the NPF always, even in the aftermath of the November 11 gubernatorial polls.”
It’s worth noting that the IGP also issued a stern warning against electoral violence during the upcoming polls and urged all candidates to encourage their supporters to prioritize peace, regardless of the election’s outcome.
