The Inspector General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, has lauded police officers and operatives from various security agencies for their unwavering support in ensuring the security of elections in Bayelsa, Imo, and Kogi States.
The IGP commended the commitment and diligence demonstrated by the security operatives during the electoral process, emphasizing its high productivity and commendable nature.
In a statement released to journalists on Tuesday at the Lois Edet House in Abuja, Force Spokesman ACP Muyiwa Adejobi conveyed the IGP’s appreciation for the seamless conduct of the electoral process in the three states, surpassing earlier threat assessments and projected challenges. The IGP acknowledged the exceptional efforts of the security personnel in maintaining law and order, securing the electoral process, and ensuring the safety of citizens.
However, the IGP acknowledged isolated incidents that occurred during the elections and directed the Electoral Offences Desk Officers, supervised by the Deputy Inspector-General of Police in charge of the Force Criminal Investigation Department, to initiate immediate investigations into these occurrences.
Expressing gratitude to all security agencies involved in election security management, the IGP recognized their collaborative efforts in supporting the Police in securing the electoral process. He urged officers to remain committed to upholding the highest standards of professionalism and integrity in the execution of their duties. Emphasizing the importance of adherence to guidelines, the rule of law, and standard operating procedures of their respective agencies, the IGP highlighted the need for a more secure democratic institution in Nigeria.
