Former minister of Aviation, Femi Fani-Kayode says that young Nigerians toying and fantasizing with the idea of a coup in Nigeria are very naive.
Making this assertion in an article made available on his social media page, the former minister, who firmly condemned coups in African nations, said he would not endorse mutiny over a democratically elected government.
“Those young people all over the social media, most of whom are millennials, Obidients and members of what has come to be known as the “GEN-Z” generation, that are busy fantasising and toying with the idea of a military coup, indulging in masturbatory illusions and calling for the Army to topple our Government and take over the reigns of power are naive, gullible, ignorant and irresponsible,” he wrote.
His comment comes as African nations continue to battle the wave of coup across the continent, just as supporters of Peter Obi continue to register their displeasure with the verdict delivered by the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal last week
Research specialists have explained the reemergence of military coups, which have lately become popular in some regions of the African continent, as being founded in corruption, rigged elections, poor governance, excessively lengthy terms of power, and the involvement of outside forces.
Recall that the military personnel behind the most recent coups have primarily attributed poor leadership from elected presidents as well as unfavourable meddling in the affairs of the afflicted African countries by former western colonisers, particularly France.
