Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s presidential candidate, has expressed dismay at the recent earthquake that has killed over 2,000 people in Morocco as the death toll from the earthquake keeps rising.
Mr Obi, who emphasised Morocco’s tremendous socioeconomic contribution to Africa in a tweet on Monday morning, expressed his dismay and condoled with the families of those who died in the dreadful earthquake.
“I am shocked by the sad news of the high-magnitude earthquake which hit Morocco recently, and which, according to reports, has a death toll of over 2000 people. My heart goes out to the government and the great people of Morocco,” tweet by Mr Obi read.
“The socio-economic contributions of Morocco to Africa are immeasurable. I remember when I paid a study visit to Morocco last year, I was warmly received by the people. I share in their pains and urge them not to be disheartened,” it added.
“I condole with the families of those who lost their lives to this sad incident. May God comfort the affected families, grant eternal rest to the dead, and grant quick recovery to the injured. -PO.”
PoliticsNow had earlier reported that the tremors were centred in the High Atlas mountains late on Friday night. The toll was expected to rise as rescuers struggled to reach the remote areas hit hardest.
