Obi/Atiku/Tinubu: Supreme Court delivers judgement, Thursday
The Supreme Court of Nigeria will finally deliver judgement in the appeals lodged by the presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), Mr. Peter Obi, and his PDP counterpart, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, tomorrow, Thursday, October 26.
The duo is praying the apex court to set aside the judgment by the presidential election tribunal which affirmed the election of President Bola Tinubu.
The Supreme Court’s Director of Information, Dr. Festus Akande, in a statement on Wednesday said that the judgement on the appeals had been scheduled for Thursday.
He said, “Tomorrow, Thursday, has been fixed for the judgment on the appeals brought by Atiku and Peter Obi.”
At the last proceeding on Monday the Apex Court said it reserved judgment on the two appeals for a date to be communicated to the parties.
Apart from faulting the judgement of the Presidential Election Petition Court( PEPC), which affirmed Tinubu’s election, Atiku Abubakar also filed for permission to tender a copy of Tinubu’s academic records released by the Chicago State University (CSU), USA, which he said showed that Tinubu submitted a forged CSU certificate to the Independent National Electoral Commission(INEC).
The lead counsel to Obi and his party, Dr. Livy Uzoukwu (SAN) had prayed the Apex Court to allow the appeal and set aside the judgement of the lower court while Abubakar Mahmoud, Olanipekun and Olujimi, representing INEC, Tinubu, Vice President Kashim Shettima and the APC, urged the court to dismiss the appeal for lacking in merit.
