Obaseki reveals why he is not supporting his deputy’s ambition of becoming Edo governor
Godwin Obaseki, the governor of Edo State, recently outlined his reasons for opposing Comrade Philip Shaibu’s bid to succeed him.
He claimed that engaging in vigorous politics at this time would be distracting.
Crusoe Osagie, the governor’s special adviser on media projects, asserted that no amount of coercion could currently convince the Edo governor to back Shaibu’s bid for governor.
The media advisor claimed that it was his boss’ well-reasoned stance that it would not be in the best interests of the Edo people to forego administration in favour of intensive politics at this time.
Shaibu tried to instigate a crisis, according to Osagie, who labeled him a rabble-rouser and said that by doing so, he brought his indiscipline and hubris to a peak.
“Shaibu always plays the card of a very loyal deputy, but this is far from reality. A sinner runs when no one pursues him.
“The most blame goes to Governor Obaseki for trying to adopt a civilised manner in relating with his deputy, in a society where such gesture would be taken for weakness.”
The deputy governor’s intention to run for office in the upcoming election strained the governor and deputy’s relationship.
The governor is reportedly supporting a professional based in Lagos to take over as governor.
The deputy governor has gone to the Federal High Court in Abuja to request protection from victimisation as a result of the tense relationship.
