The Lagos State House of Assembly Speaker, Hon Lasbat Mojisola Meranda has resigned from her post after serving 49 days in that capacity. She was subsequently elected as Deputy Speaker.
The Assembly lawmakers also re-elected impeached Speaker Mudashiru Obasa as Speaker, after a bitter tussle which saw 35 out of 40 members initially rejecting him.
Other principal officers of the Assembly, including the Chief Whip and his Deputy, the Majority Leader and his Deputy also resigned with new set of leaders elected by voice votes to replace them.
Meranda, in her resignation speech, appreciated her colleagues for their gallantry. She said her resignation was to allow for peace in the tumultuous Assembly where the impeached Speaker Mudashiru Obasa was laying hold to the office.
