Nottingham Forest has officially appointed Nuno Espírito Santo as their new head coach, signing him on a two-and-a-half-year contract. The 49-year-old Portuguese manager makes a return to English football after a two-year break following his brief stint with Tottenham Hotspur. Nuno, who has been without a club since parting ways with Al-Ittihad in the Saudi Pro League in November, is set to lead Forest, currently positioned five points clear of the English Premier League relegation zone. His debut match in charge will be a crucial encounter against Bournemouth this Saturday.
This decision follows the dismissal of the previous head coach, Steve Cooper, who faced challenges with only one victory in the last 13 league matches, prompting the club’s swift response to address relegation concerns.
Nuno Espírito Santo is a familiar figure in English football, having previously managed Wolverhampton Wanderers from 2017 to 2021. During his tenure, he successfully guided the team from the Championship to a commendable 7th-place finish in the Premier League in his first top-flight season. Forest anticipates that Nuno’s extensive experience will prove instrumental as they strive to avoid relegation to the second division this season.
With over half the season remaining, Nuno faces a challenging task to rejuvenate the team and secure their top-flight status for the upcoming season.
