The Katsina Elders’ Forum has cautioned President Bola Tinubu against relocating vital departments of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) from Abuja to Lagos or any Southern region.
The forum expressed concerns that such a move could jeopardize Tinubu’s prospects in the 2027 general elections.
It also accused the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, of facilitating the infiltration of kidnappers into Abuja to support the federal government’s relocation plans.
Aliyu Mohammed, the forum’s Secretary, emphasized during a briefing that relocating critical infrastructure could disrupt Northern Nigeria’s socio-economic activities.
He criticized the advisement pushing for the relocation as detrimental to national unity.
Mohammed urged Tinubu to reconsider such decisions, warning that the North would not support him in the 2027 elections if he proceeds with the relocation plans.
He also questioned Tinubu’s focus, urging him to prioritize addressing Northern Nigeria’s security challenges rather than relocating economic projects.
The forum expressed concern that security measures like inviting Israeli security firms to Abuja were escalating tensions. They called for a concerted effort to address insecurity in the North instead of relocating key institutions to other regions.
