The North Central Governors Forum has contributed N100 million to assist the victims of the Christmas Eve attacks in Plateau State.
During a visit to Governor Caleb Mutfwang in Jos on Tuesday, Abdullahi Sule, the Chairman of the Forum and Governor of Nasarawa State, announced the donation. The attacks, carried out by suspected bandits on Christmas Eve, targeted 15 villages in Bokkos and Barkin Ladi Local Government Areas of Plateau, resulting in the loss of hundreds of lives and the destruction of approximately 221 houses.
Sule stated that the purpose of the donation was to alleviate the suffering of the survivors of the brutal attacks. The visit was also a gesture of sympathy and solidarity with Governor Mutfwang.
During his remarks, Governor Hyacinth Alia of Benue urged the people of Plateau, Nasarawa, Benue, and Niger states to unite against terrorists who are disrupting the peace in the North Central states. Governor Alia highlighted the recurring and unprovoked attacks on farming communities, emphasizing the need to address this issue decisively.
In response, Governor Mutfwang expressed gratitude to his fellow Governors for their visit and words of condolence. He lamented that it is unfortunate events like these that bring other Governors to Plateau State. He concluded by expressing a hopeful wish that, in the future, the entire nation would gather on the Plateau for celebrations rather than mourning.
