No hiding place for killers of military personnel in delta – Tinubu authorises DHQ, CDS to bring perpetrators to justice

President Bola Tinubu has declared an uncompromising pursuit to apprehend the perpetrators responsible for the deaths of 16 military personnel in Delta State, vowing to subject them to the full force of the law.

This comes as the Nigerian military, responding to the incident, deployed armored vehicles to Bomadi, the administrative headquarters of Bomadi Council. Reports indicate that in retaliation for the loss of their personnel, soldiers continued to destroy homes in the Okuama community.

Earlier, on Thursday, March 14, Officers and soldiers from Operation Delta Safe, including a Commanding Officer and several other ranking officers, were tragically killed alongside a civilian during efforts to quell a communal crisis in Okuoma community, Ughelli South Local Government Area of Delta State.

The reprehensible act has sparked widespread condemnation from various quarters, including President Tinubu, the Nigerian Senate, Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, Senator Ede Dafinone representing Delta Central Senatorial District, as well as former presidential candidates Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi. Calls for an investigation and the apprehension of the culprits have echoed from organizations like the Human Rights Writers Association of Nigeria (HURIWA) and numerous others.

President Tinubu, in a statement, described the killings as “unprovoked” and “horrifying,” extending his heartfelt condolences to the families of the deceased soldiers and emphasizing that justice would be pursued relentlessly.

Expressing solidarity with the fallen soldiers, Tinubu hailed their bravery and patriotism, emphasizing that any assault on the armed forces is an assault on the nation itself. He granted full authority to the Defence Headquarters and Chief of Defence Staff to ensure that those responsible face justice, reaffirming his administration’s commitment to restoring peace and stability across Nigeria.

Similarly, the Senate condemned the gruesome incident, vowing to stand with the Defence Headquarters and Nigerian Army in seeking justice for the fallen heroes. They pledged unwavering support for investigations and legal proceedings to ensure accountability for the heinous crime.
