To foster a peaceful atmosphere in anticipation of, during, and following the imminent decision by the appeal court regarding the gubernatorial election, the ruling New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) and the opposition All Progressives Congress (APC) have entered into a peace accord with the Kano State Police Command.
Earlier reports from PoliticsNow had indicated that the appeal court in Abuja was slated to announce its ruling on the state governorship case on Friday.
Addressing the media on Thursday at the Police Command Headquarters in Bompai, Commissioner of Police Mohammed Usaini Gumel conveyed that the Police Force has devised strategies aimed at promoting harmony and tranquility in the state in the lead-up to, during, and subsequent to the court’s decision.
Gumel, alongside other heads of security agencies, affirmed that all necessary security measures to uphold peace had been finalized by the command.
Representatives from the NNPP, Vice Chairman Wada Ibrahim, and the APC’s Secretary, Ibrahim Sarina, participated in the meeting.
“Both parties have mutually committed to ensuring the maintenance of peace and calmness before, during, and after the announcement of the Appeal Court judgment. Additionally, we have received assurances from the leaders of both political parties that they will communicate this commitment to their respective followers and supporters,” stated Gumel.
