The nationwide strike called by the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has not affected the supply of electricity from the national grid, says the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN).
An earlier report by Daily Post, quoted TCN’s spokesperson Ndidi Mbah as saying that workers in the organization would join the NLC/TUC strike which would result in shutting down of the national grid.
But hours after the report, Ndidi Mbah, the TCN spokesperson, issued a statement denying the shutdown of the national grid, saying it is intact.
She, however, did not disclaim the earlier reported. She only noted that the TCN National Control Centre Osogbo which controls bulk power transmission nationwide, is actively operational.
“We hereby note that the nation’s grid is intact and supplying bulk electricity to distribution load centres nationwide,” she said.
The two major labour unions, NLC and TUC, had declared a nationwide strike following the brutalisation of the NLC president, Joe Ajaero in Imo State on 1 November.
Ajaero was attacked in Owerri, the state capital, during an NLC protest against the Imo State government over alleged maltreatment of workers in the state.
NLC and TUC have demanded the arrest and prosecution of all those involved on the assault of Ajaero as part of the conditions for calling off the strike, which is indefinite.
