The Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja has been grounded by members of the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC) who are protesting the brutalisation of Joe Ajaero by thugs and policemen in Imo.
The TUC and NLC had this week directed its members to withdraw their services in Imo. As part of that move, the organised labour also mandated their members in the Abuja Airport to discontinued flight operations to Imo.
As at 8:58 a.m., the union gathered at the Abuja Airport to enforce their directive to members working in the aviation sector to stop all flights to Owerri, the Imo state capital.
The protesters blocked both the entry and exit ways of the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport.
The protesters attempted to enter the airport but were stopped by the military at the checkpoint. As a result of the refusal, the protesters blocked the entry and exit points of the airport, causing heavy traffic of vehicles on both sides, thereby forcing travellers to make their way into the airport on foot.
