The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has dismissed the N5 billion allocations to each state in the federation on Thursday, saying the palliative measures wouldn’t even cover one local government council.
Joe Ajaero, President of the NLC, criticised the palliative plan designed to lessen the effects of the loss of fuel subsidies and referred to Nigeria as a nation where the leaders display the highest level of evil against their people.
He expressed apparent grief over the decision, saying that eliminating the fuel subsidy was like starting a war against the underprivileged.
At the NLC national symposium, titled “Nigeria Economy and the Crisis of Survival: Robbing the Poor to Pay the Rich,” Ajaero gave the speech.
The distribution of the palliative would be biased in favour of the ruling class, he said, enriching state governors at the expense of the poor majority.
He claimed that governors had a history of using resources intended for the poor and working class for their own profit.
“The palliatives which the Federal Government was giving to a whole state is barely enough to adequately cater for just one local government area in a state,” he claimed.
Making further remarks at the event, he said, “What is happening in the country today is clearly a class war between us the dispossessed and those that have.
