Ningi receives salute, LP lawmakers scorn over N3.7trn budget padding allegation

Nigerians on social media are expressing support for suspended Senator Abdu Ningi who alleged that at least N3.7 trillion in the 2024 budget, has no specific destination.

Ningi was suspended over the allegation on the ground that he brought the Senate into disrepute. Akpabio specifically alleged that Ningi has damaged the reputation of the Senate by his allegation.

But the suspension of Ningi, after a lengthy debate on the subject, appears to have made the lawmaker representing Bauchi Central a towering figure.

On X, netizens have been expressing support for Ningi.
Former Senator Shehu Sani posting via his X handle, @ShehuSani said: “It’s either your Senator is on the Side of Akpabio or on the side of Ningi. The Senators who maintain silence are either afraid of the public or afraid of suspension.”

@PIDOMNIGERIA said: “He is not a saint, but kudos must be given to him for being bold enough to challenge the status quo. Calling out the leadership of the Senate for budget padding/corruption should not land him any suspension. Reinstate Abdul Ningi back now. Shame to all Labour party @NgLabour senators for joining the corruption bandwagon at the Senate.”

@firstladyship said: “This is Senator Abdul Ningi’s Appreciation! For standing tall in the face of threats. ”
@KawuGarba said: “Without Senator Abdul Ahmed Ningi, we would not have known anything about this massive budget padding. Even the Labour Party representatives have camouflaged with APC & PDP.”

@DemolaRewaju said: “The courage of our Senator Abdul Ningi must therefore be extolled as necessary for democratic growth: He knew the likely consequences of speaking out and only craved an opportunity to throw more light on what he allegedly said. His suspension is an attempt to kill the truth.”
