The West African Examination Council (WAEC) has removed a Youtube video attached to a tweet it made in 2016 on its official Twitter (now X handle) of how the former Governor of Anambra State, Peter Obi, moved the state from number 26th to first position in the ranking of best performing states in WAEC and NECO exams.
Obi, presidential candidate of the Labour Party in the 2023 election, was recently trolled by social media influencer, Reno Omokri, that he built no school throughout his eight-year tenure as governor.
But in response, Obi said he moved the quality of Anambra State education from 26 to one within the period he was governor. He achieved the feat, according to Obi, by computerizing all public schools, providing schools with buses and raising the welfare of teachers.
In the middle of the debate about Obi’s record of achievement in education as governor of Anambra State, the video WAEC promoted on its X handle in 2016, showing Obi speaking about how he moved Anambra from number 26 to first in WAEC and NECO exams, has been deleted.
The removal of the video has infuriated Obidients, the support base of Obi’s presidential quest.
@von_Bismack said: “WAEC Nigeria deleted its own video, which confirmed Peter Obi’s statement that Anambra indeed moved from 27 to 1st in ranking. This is not just collusion but clearly shows state capture in full glare.”
@Morris_Monye said: “Is WAEC now an arm of APC? How do you delete a whole video because of politics. All because you don’t want PO to look good. It is really concerning.”
@maverickhurt said: “I just hope they (WAEC) don’t start mass failing everybody in Anambra state just to push a narrative.”
@Benking443 said: “WAEC deleted their own video because of politics. This means they’re willing to withhold any data which doesn’t favour APC. This is a clear case of state capture and this type of politics should scare you if you have a functional brain.”
