Nigerians haven’t stopped commenting since globally recognised novelist, Chimamanda Adichie, was spotted on Tuesday at the presidential election tribunal.
The well-known author of Half of a Yellow Sun was seen attending the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal dressed in a scarlet robe.
The Peoples Democratic Party’s Atiku Abubakar and the Labour Party’s Peter Obi are both challenging President Bola Tinubu’s victory at the PEPT. There are, however, rumours that president Tinubu tried to persuade the judiciary to rule in his favour. The presidency has denied the allegation.
In this regard, prominent members of the PDP and LP, two of the main opposition parties, have continued to closely monitor the PEPT proceedings.
Reacting to the appearance of Ms Adichie at the PEPT in a tweet, former Education Minister Oby Ezekwesili warned that all eyes were on the judiciary.
“Awesome! This is an exemplary demonstration of what #AllEyesOnTheJudiciary actually means by @ChimamandaReal . All our are definitely watching our Judiciary intensely. #OfficeOfTheCitizen is the highest Office in a Democracy,” Ms Ezekwesili wrote.
“How’s @ChimamandaReal presence suppose to be better that all those who have been labouring for @PeterObi. Can we stop this unnecessary twitter sensations. Judiciary has a job to do, and a truck load of ppl won’t stop them from doing it. Are you not observing the 2 wks break?” @Justkennie wrote.
On his part Uche Mgbaji prayed God to grant the judiciary the courage to do the right thing.
“May God grant the judges wisdom and courage to do the right thing. Bulkachuwalisation of the judiciary will destroy our democracy,” he wrote.
On his part, @Deoptimistev commended move by Ms Adichie to appear in court.
“This is awesome, This guy needs to understand that the whole world is watching the judiciary. Dear Obideints, where are you? It is Court O’ Clock. Obideints follow for and immediate follow up,” he wrote.
