Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has revealed there will be no elaborate celebration as the country marks its 63rd Independence Day anniversary.
Making this disclosure in a statement made available by his spokesperson, Gbenga Omotosho, Mr Sanwo-Olu explained that the usual parade and other elements of the celebration have been canceled as a result of the current economic challenges bedeviling the nation.
“There will be no elaborate celebration of the 63rd Independence Anniversary in Lagos. This is in line with the economic challenges of the times. The usual parades and other elements of the celebration are being shelved,” statement by mr Omotosho read.
The decision comes as Nigeria continues to battle the hard-felt impact of the move by the Bola Tinubu-led government to remove fuel subsidy.
Mr Sanwo-Olu however enjoined Lagosians to celebrate modestly, even as they continue to pray for the peace and progress of Nigeria and the state.
