The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) is reportedly in negotiations to entice former Super Eagles head coach, Jose Peseiro, back to the helm with an enhanced contract offer. Peseiro’s previous tenure, spanning 23 matches, culminated with a notable second-place finish at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Ivory Coast.
Sources within the Federation indicate that discussions are underway to solidify the terms of an improved contract for the 63-year-old Portuguese tactician. Although the NFF has reportedly tabled an offer of $80,000, up from the previous $50,000, the final financial details remain subject to ongoing talks as both parties strive to reach a mutually beneficial agreement.
Sports Minister, John Enoh, has been a vocal advocate for retaining Peseiro’s services, particularly for the duration of the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying campaign. Enoh’s close relationship with the coach holds sway in influencing the decision-making process, as the NFF seeks to ensure stability and consistency within the coaching setup.
While Peseiro maintains a cautious approach, opting to assess all offers on the table before committing, stakeholders eagerly await updates regarding the future leadership of the Super Eagles. The Portuguese coach’s potential return could provide the continuity and momentum needed as Nigeria prepares for the upcoming World Cup qualifying campaign.
