On Monday, Sanusi Garba, Chairman of the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC), presented the Power Outage Reporting System (PORS) App, which will facilitate and expedite the country’s complaint-resolution procedure.
Garba encouraged all the energy users in Abuja to log in as he launched the online Application.
He continued by saying that the PORS invention could be downloaded from the Apple or Google Play stores and that all consumer groups may use it.
He reaffirmed that the commission has a system in place to monitor how well distribution firms (DisCos) adhere to the deadline for resolving complaints and to penalise DisCos that fall short of that deadline.
The App is being introduced as a prototype DisCo at the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC), after which it would be made available to other DisCos nationwide, according to Engr. Garba.
“We decided to start this launch with Abuja, but there will be national rollout for all distribution companies,” he noted, adding that such a massive project requires a test run, and Abuja was picked as the starting point.
He charged the DisCos to ensure full operation of the new technology to resolve power outage complaints by customers in real time.
