The National Economic Council (NEC) has made a fervent appeal to the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC) to reconsider their impending industrial action.
During a press conference held after the NEC meeting at the Presidential Villa in Abuja on Thursday, Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang issued this heartfelt request. He urged the leadership of these organized labor unions to exercise patience and maintain an open channel for dialogue with the Federal Government.
Governor Mutfwang underscored the importance of a cooperative approach, stressing that the well-being of Nigerian workers remains a top priority. He noted that President Bola Tinubu is set to address these concerns in his upcoming Independence Day broadcast to the nation on Sunday.
These appeals for restraint and continued dialogue come as the NLC and the Trade Union Congress of Nigeria (TUC) recently announced their intention to initiate an indefinite strike commencing on Tuesday, October 3. Additionally, both labor organizations have taken steps to mobilize their respective state chapters for nationwide protests.
It’s worth mentioning that the leaders of both labor unions have resolved their previous differences, ensuring that their collective efforts are united in pursuit of their shared objectives.
