After conducting a raid in a warehouse at the International Trade Fair Complex, Alaba, Ojo area of Lagos on Saturday, the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) reported that it had collected illicit substances valued at N4.8 billion.
This development was announced in a statement by NDLEA spokesperson Femi Babafemi.
In the warehouse alleged to belong to an affluent drug lord, 3.2 million codeine tablets weighing a total of 3,360 kg and 1.4 million tramadol 225 mg pills weighing 826 kg were discovered, according to the statement.
284,100 bottles of codeine syrup from 2,841 cartons were also found.
Babafemi estimated that the chemicals were worth around N4,820,500,000 in the black market.
He stated that during the hours-long operation, Paulinus Ojukwu, a suspect who poses as a trader of auto spare parts and serves as the drug baron’s Chief Security Officer (CSO), was apprehended and is currently assisting with the ongoing investigation.
The spokesperson also disclosed that on Friday, during a stop and search operation along the Abaji-Lokoja road in Abuja, NDLEA agents discovered $20 million that they believed to be counterfeit.
The suspected fake money was recovered from a bus coming from Lagos to Abuja, while the 53-year-old driver of the vehicle, Onyebuchi Nlededin, was arrested.
