National Assembly set to pass 2024 appropriation bill today

The National Assembly is poised to pass the 2024 Appropriation Bill today, December 30, during their plenary sessions in both the Senate and the House of Representatives. The harmonized 2024 budget will be presented and approved at their respective sittings.

In a statement released by the Clerk to the Senate, Chinedu Akubueze, and the Clerk to the House of Representatives, Dr. Yahaya Danzaria, the plenary sessions will commence promptly at 1 pm.

The Senate leader, Opeyemi Bamidele, assured Nigerians that federal lawmakers, who shortened their holidays for this purpose, are committed to the swift passage of the 2024 appropriations bill. To expedite the process, all ministries, departments, and agencies have appeared before joint sittings of relevant committees, reducing the time for budget defense.

Bamidele emphasized that the National Assembly has been proactive, holding sessions beyond regular days, including Saturdays, and may even convene on Sunday as the year comes to an end. The goal is to finalize the budget before the new year, ensuring it reaches the President’s desk for assent on January 1, 2024, facilitating its prompt implementation.
