The Ethics, Code of Conduct and Public Petitions Committee of the Senate will today, March 5 grill the Senator representing Kogi Central, Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan over allegation of unruly behaviour during last Thursday’s plenary session.
The committee chairman, Senator Neda Imasuen (LP, Edo South), confirmed that Natasha would be expected on Wednesday to answer the complaints against her. He made the disclosure during an interview on Arise TV.
The decision to recommend Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan to the committee followed a report presented by Senator Adeyemi Adaramodu (APC, Ekiti South), who is also the chairman of the Committee on Media and Public Affairs. Adaramodu noted that Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan’s actions during plenary, where she openly challenged the Senate President over the reallocation of her seat, had significantly damaged the Senate’s image.
He cited her interview on Brekete Family on Human Rights Radio and TV, where she further alleged that Akpabio’s decision was intended to silence and intimidate her.
The uproar, Adaramodu stated, led to widespread negative media coverage of the Senate, forcing him to engage multiple media outlets to explain the chamber’s position.
Contributing to the debate, Senate Leader Opeyemi Bamidele (APC, Ekiti Central), Minority Leader Abba Moro (PDP, Benue South), and Senator Jimoh Ibrahim (APC, Ondo South) condemned Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan’s conduct.
They emphasized that her actions violated Senate Standing Orders, which grant the presiding officer authority to allocate seats and maintain order and decorum.
