Natasha apologises to Ezekwesili over insult from Senator Nwebonyi

The suspended Senator representing Kogi Central, Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, has apologised to the former minister of education, Dr Oby Ezekwesili, for the barrage of insults she endured from Senator Peter Nwebonyi during a Senate hearing.

Nwebonyi, an ally of Senate President Godswill Akpabio, engaged Oby Ezekwesili in a heated exchange during the Senate ethics committee hearing probing the allegation of sexual harassment against Akpabio.

The senator from Ebonyi later descended into a street fight, calling Ezekwesili unspeakable names including ‘smelly mouth’, ‘big fool’, ‘fool at 70.’

Oby Ezekwesili who stood her ground despite her microphone being repeatedly switched off while Nwebonyi was allowed to throw invectives at her, described the senator as a ‘scoundrel.’

Ezekwesili attended the senate hearing in solidarity with Natasha over her troubles in the Senate. She has been on a six-month suspension for protesting the change of her seat.

In a post on her social media handle, Natasha apologised to Oby Ezekwesili, saying: “You took them for me.”

She said: “ Dr @obyezeks, I apologise for the insults. I know you took them for me…for us…as a mother and as a leader. Know that you are a true icon of integrity, courage and visionary leadership. Your unwavering commitment to good governance, education and democracy continues to inspire generations. A champion of accountability…Nigerians appreciate you. I celebrate your brilliance, resilience and selfless service. You are a hero.”

Ezekwesili replied with the comment, “Very kind words, dear Senator Natasha Akpoti Uduaghan @NatashaAkpoti. Yet to me, a torrent of insults from any source is but a little price to pay in our resolve to see a Nigerian that Becomes. Our daughters and granddaughters must never inherit battles and wars we should have fought and won for them. An unjust society that silences women and vulnerable people can never Become. We all must refuse that for Nigeria.  We STAND ON! ✍🏾✍🏾✍🏾
