Reno Omokri, a former aide to former Nigerian President Goodluck Jonathan, has denied being paid by popular Nigerian singer, Naira Marley to disprove the singer’s involvement in the death of his former label singer, Mohbad.
In a statement released via his official X handle following his interview with the embattled Nigerian singer, Mr Omokri detailed how he sought out Niara Marley and convinced him to tell his story so that the world could learn the other side of the one-sided story.
“To anyone saying Naira Marley paid me to do PR for him, let us have a spiritual pact. If it is true, may I never prosper. And if it is a lie, may God find you and Judge you publicly. In Yeshua’s Name. I don’t reason like you. I have been the victim of herd mentality and groupthink,” Mr Omokri said.
“I empathise with people in Azeez Fashola’s present condition. I looked for Naira Marley and convinced him to tell his story,” he added,
To support his decision to interview the singer, Omokri stated that he read about rumours of his dismissal as a presidential spokesman, about five times in the papers.
Mr Omokri has faced widespread criticism following his interview with the singer, with many calling for his arrest in connection with the death of popular Nigerian singer Mohbad.
Many Nigerians have continued to call for the arrest of Naira Marley and his associate Sam Larry in connection with the singer’s death.
However, against the increased call for their arrest, the former presidential aide interviewed the singer on Wednesday night, where the singer reiterated that he was not responsible for Mohbad’s death, calling for the police to investigate and unravel the possible cause of his demise.
