N15m bribe: EFCC releases Bobrisky on bail

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has released crossdresser, Idris Okuneye, popularly known as Bobrisky, on bail after being detained following his attempt to fly out of the country after being accused of bribing EFCC officials.

The controversial cross-dresser was stopped from boarding an Amsterdam-bound KLM flight at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos late Thursday night, while intending to travel to London.

Bobrisky quickly took to social media to inform his followers of his arrest, stating that he sustained injuries in the process. He wrote, “Nigerians, help me, EFCC just arrested me. I’m badly injured.”

He was flown to the EFCC headquarters in Abuja, where he faced interrogation concerning allegations of bribery within the commission.

A voice note shared by social critic Martins Otse, also known as VeryDarkMan, alleged that Bobrisky had paid EFCC officials N15 million to have money laundering charges against him dropped.

Reports indicated that Bobrisky secured his bail late on Friday night and was subsequently released.

EFCC spokesperson Dele Oyewale confirmed his release as per Punch report on Saturday, though he declined to offer further comments.

A source familiar with the case, however, disclosed to the newspaper that Bobrisky denied all bribery allegations in his official statement.

The source also mentioned that Bobrisky challenged VeryDarkMan to provide proof.

“He denied everything about releasing money to any official as a bribe to drop the money laundering charges against him. He denied it in his statement.

“He said the fellow who posted the voice note should come over to justify it. He said nobody requested money from him in the EFCC and he didn’t give anyone anything,” the source was quoted to have said.
