More legal obstacles thrown at Trump as he faces third criminal indictment months to election

On August 1, a grand jury hearing evidence in the investigation of attempts to rig the 2020 election by special counsel Jack Smith indicted Donald Trump on four counts. Additionally, six unknown co-conspirators were listed in the indictment.

The former president was told of his impending indictment just before it happened and put the information on Truth Social.

The latest allegations are Mr. Trump’s third criminal indictment, his second federal indictment, and his first for his alleged actions while serving as president.

He has been told to appear in federal court in Washington on Thursday, and US district judge Tanya Chutkan—appointed by Barack Obama—has been given the case.

Mr. Smith issued a brief statement in which he blamed Mr. Trump for the violence, claiming that it “was fueled by lies” that the riot on January 6, 2021, occurred.

However, the Trump team argued that he had always followed the law and described the accusation as a “persecution” akin to that of Nazi Germany.

“President Trump will not be deterred by disgraceful and unprecedented political targeting!” it added.
